Lambs of Love:
We are collecting stuffed lambs to donate to families in the Perinatal Hospice program at UTMB. This program provides spiritual, educational, and emotional support for families who have lost their baby or for families who are having a child with a diagnosis that is incompatible with life. This is the very program that walked us through the five months between Abigail’s diagnosis and birth, and from first hand experience, this program is exceptional and very much needed in all hospitals. Our want is to collect as many stuffed lambs as possible to provide for these families. Our hope is that families who are having similar experiences like ours will find comfort in our lambs, knowing that there are others out there who have gone through the same thing and that there are people praying for them every step of the way. We have also found that having something physical to hold on to in memory of their child, brother, or sister helps to ease the pain when it is too great.
Perinatal Hospice:
Any extra funds that we receive will be used to help families enrolled in the Perinatal Hospice program. The funds will go towards purchasing gifts for families who have lost their child or are going through similar situations like ours. Gifts may include clay footprints, a memory box to hold a lock of their hair, lambs, gift baskets, Teddy Bear urns, or any other need we find appropriate. The funds may also go towards providing resources (books, pamphlets, etc.) for these families.
Car Seats:
As of right now, we have received enough donations for car seats. UTMB has minimal space to store the car seats, and therefore, we have met their need. In the future, we will resume collecting new car seats to donate to the pediatric department at UTMB when their supply has diminished. Why are we collecting car seats? Both the nursery and the NICU often have families that do not have the funds to purchase a car seat. This leaves children going home without the safety of a car seat. Can you imagine? We wanted to do our part in protecting the next generation, and this was just a small way we could honor our baby girl Abigail.
